Thinking About Thinking

We are often sitting in front of the computer and thinking about how to manage the task in the best way? Some people will say it’s procrastination. But I think it’s a good thing. Not procrastination, thinking. Procrastination happens when you are terminating of doing what you are thinking about.

Couple month ago I started on checking on LinkedIn and, oh my, it’s a lot of rush and hustle going on there. Everyone is running somewhere in FOMO. The opportunity windows are everywhere, unsqueezed lemons at your feet. It’s frustrating even looking at it.

I mean, I believe in doers. Doers are the power that moving this world forward. Without actions, we can’t actually achieve things. But sometimes we just need to take time to think properly before doing. Especially when we are talking about products or tech solutions. They exist to resolve problems. And to know the issue, we will have to think about it for a while.

In the tech industry now, we see that many products on the market are raw. They have plenty of features, but seems like don’t help much. They’re often speeding for the IPO, leaving the value for the end user on a shelf. Typically, they want to impress VC’s more, then resolve a real problem.

Actually, looks like this is where unethical marketing starts. Aggressively selling us something that in the long run will not solve the problem. Or will be poor at solving it.

What is thinking?

Thinking is the process of using one’s mind to consider or reason about something. In other words, it is intelligence. And of course we are using it before doing something. But, what I am talking about is deeper. Even dogs can think, but they can’t run businesses, right? I’m talking more thinking about thinking. About being conscious of our thoughts.

In 1970 a psychologist John Flavell created a term for this called metacognition. But Plato was first to start talking about it in 400 BC.

In a broader sense, metacognition, it is self-awareness in motion. Without self-awareness, we risk operating on autopilot. Unaware of our strengths, weaknesses, and the impact of our behavior on others. But placing ourselves into a position of the watcher, we have our action from the other perspective. Watching from the side where we are heading, how it will affect people, could bring a lot.

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”

Aristotle

Aristotle thought that if we know why we think and do things, we can become excellent at everything we do. I personally think that better could be only asking other people feedback on what you’re doing, I have an article about it as well.

Hey, thinking about thinking offers a powerful way for self-improvement and lifelong learning. We can enhance our decision-making skills, cultivate self-awareness, and unlock our full potential.

Pause, reflect, and embrace the power of deep thought.
